Directed to nutritionists who work closely with autistic children?
I am sorry that I am not a teacher, but I am a mother of a child with autism, and hopefully I could assist you. I put my son on a Gluten free/Casein Free diet when he was about four yrs old, and in the very beginning it helped, but later on it didn't. Here's the thing with this type of diet. Experts say that many children who suffer from autism have what you call the leaky gut syndrome. There are certain elements in most dairy, and grain that could not be broken down and digested properly in the digestive system. Something about the peptides in the body. I believe the reason why this diet wasn't successful with my son was because he would lunge out and grab another child's snack or food that wasn't on his diet. He was also loosing a considerable amount of weight and looked sickly. Way too skinny. Then I tried the Feingold diet, and that didn't help much. There is no diet that could cure autism, Although a lot of children with autism have certain food allergies, like fish, diary, and nuts, and sometimes soy. The question is, are these allergies limited to those who suffer from autism, or are there some average children and people for that matter who have food allergies, and certain diets that effect them. In the US, the Supreme court had ruled out that the preservatives at the time that were used for vaccinations, were the cause of some children developing autism, because right before the child's second birthday, the child who regress significantly. The Supreme court compared two children who were vaccinated with these same vaccinations that had these preservatives in them, and one child developed autism and the other child didn't. I personally do not concur with their decision due to the fact that no two children are alike. One child may have had a lower resistance to this, who developed autism, while the other child didn't. Now I hear from someone that I met yesterday, who was bringing me and my child to our place of worship that he saw a show on a health channel where this doctor from Australia mentioned that most of these children who develop autism, have this tumor that could not be seen on an MRI, or Xray. It's not a threat where it will keep growing, but it causes this autism. This doctor does brain surgery. Many other doctor's would not touch this area, as brain surgery is a high risk, but these children were between the ages of 3-5 yrs of age, and they turned out fine. I believe this tumor was removed successfully. If this doesn't help, I'm sorry. I tried. I figured who would know more about autism, than a parent who has a child with autism.
